Welcome to Health Econometrics

According to PubMed, the first publication with the term "health econometrics" is by John Mullahy in 1998. Two years later, Andrew Jones published his well-known book chapter in the Handbook of Health Economics. Although the application of econometrics to health-related questions has a long and well-published history, health econometrics as its own field is just emerging. It has attracted some of the best scholars in health economics, yet it does not have its own journal or meeting.

In June 2006, the American Society of Health Economists met for the first time, a long overdue event. This meeting was appropriately held in Madison, Wisconsin, the training ground of many of the great health economists (e.g., Dorothy Pechman Rice), and demonstrated the breadth of our field. Althought this website is not affiliated with ASHE, it was simultaneously introduced as a means to initiate discussion among those who work and teach in health econometrics. The growth of this site's content may be slow at first, accumulating contributions as its role is better understood. Comments are very much welcome.
